Larkspur (Delphinium consolida) belongs to the buttercup family – Ranunculaceae. Larkspur flowers are almost as complex as the Orchids. The colorful Larkspur blooms cover a spectrum from white to blue to violet.
I’m sure there’s some official name for when you rename something. Well, here at The Lark we have decided to rename The Lark Concert Series ……. The Larkspur Series.
Here’s what it is. When we built our beautiful performance space in 2014, we named it The Lark, making reference to Nebraska’s favorite songbird, The Meadowlark. The Listening Room concert series has a 27 year history and is the mainstay of our arts programming. But we wanted to offer the venue to local, regional and travelling artists who are trying to build an audience in central Nebraska. We needed to manage our financial risk, so we came up with The Lark Artist Deal, where essentially artists come in and produce their own show, providing sound, promotion, lodging, etc. We support their show by using our social media to promote it, selling tickets online and being there the night of the show to help in any way we can. The result is that we have more concerts in downtown Hastings and these artists get to play in a acoustically fabulous room to a listening crowd.
Consumer alert !!! The Larkspur Series Artists are amazing. Many veteran performers, some are young raising stars.
What I love most about The Larkspur Series is that it spirals back to the original mission of The Listening Room, circa 1991. I created the series to support and inspire local songwriters to come out of their living rooms and play their music to a room of supportive music lovers.
Why are we changing the name? Because it was confusing. All of our concerts are at The Lark !! LOL. So many people asked me what makes this Lark Concert a Listening Room concert, etc ……… ?? I hope this little blog makes the difference clearer.
How do you find out about what’s happening in The Larkspur Series?? We promote these shows in pretty much the same way we do The Listening Room Series shows; via email, on the website and Facebook. I recommend you sign up on our email list and LIKE our Facebook page so you get all the goodies we send out.
